The Freestylers

To celebrate the current Freestylers tour (that I have been lucky enough to be a part of) I made some fresh artwork dedicated to Matt & Aston aka The Freestylers! Limited edition prints of only 50 now available! Backstory below too if you’re keen to read! Hope you dig! x

Artwork backstory: the design of this artwork is based off a late 90’s Freestylers record I used to absolutely cain back in the day, most specifically at the Globe in Sydney. The track in question was the Dub Pistols remix of ‘B-Boy Stance’ (with the original mix being a huge anthem at the Globe already). You can peep the original album artwork in this post also. I recreated the original record design using AI technology as I wanted to explore the potential of AI in re-imagining some of my favourite old school artworks and label designs. The crown in the bottom left (also matched on the Freestylers heads) is the logo of Freskanova, the record label the track was released on as well as a label the Freestylers released an enormous amount of music on in the late 90’s. It was a cult label for us early breaks DJ’s and it dominated my sets in those days (it was Finger Lickin’ Records before Finger Lickin’ Records). I had intended to replicate the image of the Freestylers in drawing form but opted for Photoshop effects instead because, well, you know, time! Ha ha. Additional drawn elements and final image all done in Procreate!
